How to Make a Photo Collage on iPhone (3 Easy Ways)
The iPhone Photos app cannot make collages. Here are three easy ways to do it anyway, with step-by-step instructions.
In this article
The Photos app on iPhone can do a lot. Making a collage is not one of those things. There is no button for it.
The good news is that it only takes a minute with the right tool. Here are three ways, from fastest to most manual.
Method 1: Use a collage app (fastest)
A collage app does the layout for you. We will use CollageFlow because it is free to start and works with photos and videos.
- Download CollageFlow from the App Store and open it.
- Start a new collage. You can create with AI, pick a template, or start from a blank canvas.
- Pick a template or layout. Choose one with the number of photos you want.
- Tap each slot to add a photo. Pinch to zoom and drag to move the photo inside its frame.
- Add text and stickers. Tap Text to add a title. Tap Stickers for decorations.
- Tap Ratio to choose the size. Use 4:5 for Instagram posts or 9:16 for stories.
- Tap Save to save the collage to your Photos.
Tip: If you are not sure where to start, describe your idea to the AI Collage Creator. Try "a dreamy travel scrapbook" or "a birthday collage for my sister". It makes a design you can edit.
Method 2: Use Freeform (free, built in)
Freeform is a whiteboard app made by Apple. It comes with iOS, so there is nothing to download. It has no collage templates, but you can place photos by hand.
- Open Freeform and tap the new board button.
- Tap the photo icon in the toolbar and choose your photos.
- Drag and resize each photo to arrange them.
- Tap the share button and export the board as an image.
This works, but lining photos up by hand is slow. It also has few design options.
Method 3: Use Google Photos
If your photos are backed up to Google Photos, it has a simple collage tool.
- Open Google Photos.
- Tap the + button and choose Collage.
- Select your photos and pick a layout.
- Save the collage.
It is quick, but you get basic grids only. There are no stickers and no video.
Tips for a collage that looks good
- Pick one hero photo. Make your best photo the biggest. Let the others support it.
- Match the colors. Photos with similar tones look calm together. Use a filter on all of them if needed.
- Leave space. A little padding between photos makes the collage easier to read.
- Use fewer photos. Five great photos beat fifteen small ones.
- Use the right size. A square collage gets cropped in a story. Check our collage size guide.
